About emilia Johnston
Hey Buffs! My name is Emilia Johnston and I am a first-year student from Broomfield, Colorado. I’m a double major in Political Science and International Affairs, minoring in Italian. I’m very excited to be running for the Representative at Large position. In high school I was a very prominent leader in Student Government as well as other student organizations. Student government and the well being of our student body was always my first priority on my high school campus, and will be here as well. Using my leadership skills to benefit others and my community has always been of great importance to me and I have great experience doing so. As a first generation American, I have had the privilege of being exposed to many diverse cultures throughout my life and have been given the ability to understand growing up in a family of immigrants. I am extremely passionate about creating a more equitable and inclusive space for marginalized communities and individuals who identify as women on campus.
I have structured my campaign around platforms that build unity, pride, and inclusivity at our university. I love CU Boulder and I want to see our campus thrive. Being a first-year student during the COVID-19 pandemic, I have experienced firsthand the decline in involvement and unenrollment amongst the student population. My goal is to utilize the resources in CUSG to reestablish our buff pride and ensure that all voices are heard. I know that if we all work together, we can find ways to make our new normal the best it can be and be able to help give back some of the freshman experience to the class of 2024 and future students to come. I also plan to focus heavily on mental health and wellness by showing proper advocacy for our mental health resources and properly equipping our restrooms with complimentary feminine products. It is important to me that our Buff family is able to prioritize finding tools to compensate for the decline in mental health we have seen during this past year of quarantine. Lastly, I will use my platform as a Representative at Large to advocate for reimbursements from the university as a result of the pandemic. I will do my part as a representative to give back to the student population that has been disproportionately affected during this coronavirus pandemic. I’d like to use my platform to find both safe and inclusive ways to create community on our campus while following COVID-19 safety procedures.Thank you so much for your consideration of me as your Representative at Large!
